Two picture monday

Some day, I’ll do a series called “Buildings that look like churches but aren’t. Or vice versa”.

This one is, though it rather looks a Mondrian painting.

When I started this blog, I was wondering how long I could keep posting without showing the castle. It’s been almost two years now. But with time at ever shorter supply, I think I better change my routine before the blog runs dry anyway.

So here we go… a slight glimpse of the world famous ruin that’s visited by thousands and thousands of tourists each year.

At this time, thoughts go out to the people of Japan who have truly been hit by a threefold catastrophe that’s causing heavy repercussions all around the world.

St. John’s church in Rohrbach is rather unique because both the church itself an its tower are octagonal.

Royal standard pretzel

This is one of my favourite details at Heiliggeist church. You’re not likely to be shown this by a tourist guide. The colons between market stalls around the church have a lot of these Pretzel shape carvings. The standard interpretation says that these were meant to show you what you could expect for your money – a standard pastry size by order of authorities. A medieval kind of DIN (German Industry Norm) system!

It just makes me wonder why there are so many carvings of different sizes.

They’re easier to find in winter time, by the way, when not all the stalls are open all the time.

Smoking church

Sorry about the break. My annual dose of pre-Christmas overload.

The reason why I stood at this spot in the first place was this view. This church is of course neither burning nor having a cig. From this point of view, there’s a funnel right behind it.
